The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health

The United States has faced nursing shortages in recent years, and the expected increase in demand for patient services suggests that the health care system as a whole will need to find innovative ways to provide quality care. This new report, from the Institute of Medicine, assesses the capacity of the nursing work force to meet the demands of a reformed health system and presents an agenda for action.

These series of briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on October 5, 2010 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
