Returning Home from Iraq and Afghanistan:
Preliminary Assessment of Readjustment Needs of Veterans,
Service Members, and Their Families

Requested by Congress in P.L. 110-181, this first report of a two part study offers preliminary findings about the physical and mental health and other readjustment needs for current and former members of the armed forces deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The report lays the groundwork for the second phase of the study, which will include a comprehensive assessment of the physical, mental, social, and economic impacts of service and identify gaps in care.

These series of briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on March 31, 2010 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
