Medications for Opioid Use Disorder Save Lives

To support the dissemination of accurate patient-focused information about treatments for addiction, and to help provide scientific solutions to the current opioid crisis, this new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine studies the evidence base on medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. The report examines available evidence on the range of parameters and circumstances in which MAT can be effectively delivered and identifies additional research needed.

These briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on March 20, 2019 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
