2009 ASADI V Conference

Ghana Academy to Host ASADI V
The fifth annual ASADI conference will be held November 10-11 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana. The conference will be hosted by the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. Improving maternal, newborn, and child health in Africa will be the theme of the meeting.

Travel
Visa Requirements
All persons entering Ghana, except the following require visas:

  • Citizens of the countries of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) which include the following: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo;
  • Citizens of Egypt, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Zimbabwe;
  • Holders of German and Cuban Diplomatic / Service Passports;
  • Persons in direct airside transit provided they are holding valid onward or return documentation and are not leaving the airport.

Major Airlines Operating in Ghana
Several international airlines including British Airways, Delta Airlines, KLM/North West Airlines, Alitalia, Lufthansa, Emirates, Egypt Air, Kenya Airways, Virgin Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and South African Airways connect from major cities in North America, Europe and Africa and the Middle East to Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Accra, which is the gateway to Ghana.

Health & Immunizations
A valid certificate of immunization against yellow fever is required for all travelers. Other recommended immunizations for travel to Ghana include Typhoid, Hepatitis A, and Diphtheria.

Local Information
Ghana, a former British colony known as Gold-Coast, became the first sub-Saharan country in Africa to gain independence in 1957. It is located in West Africa, bordering the Gulf of Guinea, between Cote d'Ivoire and Togo, and covers an area of about 239,460 sq km. Current population is about 23 million. Ghana enjoys a tropical climate; warm and comparatively dry along the southeast coast; hot and humid in the southwest; hot and dry in the north. It is divided into 10 administrative regions; Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Central, Eastern, Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Volta, Western and Greater Accra, home of the capital city, Accra.
