Members and Foreign Associate Win Nobel Prize in Physics


October 4, 2005 -- National Academy of Sciences member Roy J. Glauber has been awarded the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physics along with NAS member John L. Hall and NAS foreign associate Theodor W. Hänsch. Receiving half of this year's prize, Glauber is cited for his contribution to the quantum theory of optical coherence, while Hall and Hänsch are jointly recognized for their contributions to the development of laser-based precision spectroscopy and will each receive one-quarter of the prize.
