NAS Foreign Associate Wins Nobel Prize in Chemistry
Nobel Prize in Chemistry

Gerhard Ertl today received the 2007 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his studies of chemical processes on solid surfaces," - which greatly affects the chemical industry and helps increase understanding in a variety of areas including fuel cell research, production of artificial fertilizers, and the processes that allow catalytic converters to clean vehicle exhaust. Ertl is a foreign associate of National Academy of Sciences.
