NAS Foreign Associate Wins Nobel Prize in Chemistry


Nobel Prize in Chemistry

October 10, 2007 -- Gerhard Ertl today received the 2007 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his studies of chemical processes on solid surfaces," - which greatly affects the chemical industry and helps increase understanding in a variety of areas including fuel cell research, production of artificial fertilizers, and the processes that allow catalytic converters to clean vehicle exhaust. Ertl is a foreign associate of National Academy of Sciences.
