The National Cancer Policy Forum held a public workshop, Incorporating Weight Management and Physical Activity Throughout the Cancer Care Continuum, in February 2017.  Workshop sessions and discussions examined the evidence base on obesity, physical activity, weight management, and health outcomes in cancer survivors, as well as the effectiveness of interventions for promoting physical activity and weight management in cancer survivors.

Presentations and discussions highlighted the opportunities and challenges in the delivery of weight management and physical activity interventions as a part of routine cancer care, including models of care delivery, issues with insurance coverage and access, clinician education, care coordination, as well as ensuring that interventions are well-aligned with the diverse needs that cancer survivors may have. A major goal of the workshop was to facilitate discussion about potential opportunities to overcome existing challenges, and actions that could improve weight management and physical activity for cancer survivors throughout the cancer care continuum.

This workshop is a continuation of earlier National Cancer Policy Forum work. In 2011, the Forum held a workshop examining the role of obesity in cancer survival and recurrence. The workshop summary is available here.
