Activity: Roundtable on Environmental Health Sciences, Research, and Medicine
Board: Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice

On March 19th 2014, the Roundtable will host a workshop entitled Principles and Best Practices for Sharing Data from Environmental Health Research. Environmental health experts agree that the question is not "if" research data should be shared, but "how." Transparency and accessibility of data derived from human subjects raise ethical, scientific, and process questions not necessarily salient in other areas of science, such as physics, geology, or chemistry. The workshop will explore key concerns, principles, and best practices to foster the responsible sharing of data used in support of environmental health research and policy-making, while protecting the privacy of human subjects and addressing concerns of the research community. The Roundtable will collaborate with the NRC Committee on Science, Technology, and Law (CSTL) in forming a planning committee to develop this workshop.
