This Innovation Collaborative is no longer active
The Collaborative on Global Chronic Disease Prevention and Control is an ad hoc activity associated with the Forum on Public-Private Partnerships for Global Health and Safety (PPP Forum) at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the National Academies). The Collaborative does not necessarily represent the views of any one organization, the PPP Forum, or the National Academies and has not been subjected to the review procedures of, nor are they a report or product of, the National Academies.
The Collaborative is flexible and activity-oriented. It is an opportunity to engage a community of participants who are interested in advancing the prevention and control of chronic disease by exploring health in ways that span disciplines, sectors, and settings; by conceiving of partnerships for health in new ways; and by fostering progress in how evidence is generated and used.
Given the importance of recognizing and addressing related issues that are shared across health, the scope of “chronic diseases” will be broadly inclusive of health issues that require a lifecourse approach to health promotion, risk factor reduction, disease prevention, treatment and management of illness, and systems-level, multisectoral approaches for population health.
The Collaborative does not have appointed members. It is a community of participants that is inclusive and open to all. Participation in individual projects and events is structured according to interest, need, and practicality. If you would like to join our mailing list to stay be informed of and participate in our activities, please add your name to our mailing list (coming soon).
The activities of the Collaborative are based on participant interest. The IOM staff can develop, coordinate, and facilitate activities for which enough time and resources can be garnered from participants.
Please stay tuned for upcoming activities.
We’re keeping track of ideas for research, analysis, convening, or any other type of activity that could potentially contribute to the control and prevention of chronic disease.
See the latest Idea Log here >>
We’ll be referring to this list as we develop new Collaborative activities, but this idea log does not represent a commitment that the IOM will carry out the activities listed. In fact, you are welcome to take and develop any ideas that grab your attention. Or if there is something you’d like to help us develop and generate the support to carry out, let us know and we can discuss whether we might be able to work on it together.
These are some of the principles that we will try to abide by in this collaborative. This list is open and evolving.
- Be additive, not duplicative.
- Emphasize practical applications; stay in touch with ground-level work.
- Keep in mind the wider context that influences and is influenced by heath and disease.
- Expand beyond the usual participants.
- Use language and terminology that is accessible to a range of audiences and disciplinary perspectives.
