Deirdre McGinley-Gieser is Senior Vice President, Programs & Strategic Planning, at the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR). She leads the research, education, public policy and communications work of the Institute. The focus of all these programs is to increase knowledge and awareness of the role of nutrition, physical activity and weight management in cancer risk and to provide evidence-based strategies to support behavior change for improved health outcomes. Prior to starting this position in 2008, Ms. McGinley-Gieser worked at AICR’s affiliate, World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRF), in London, UK. Serving as the Director for International Operations she led cross country teams in all aspects of organizational development, including legal, regulatory, fundraising and outreach to scientific and health stakeholders. She served as a member of the Secretariat for all three of the AICR/WCRF Scientific Expert Reports published in 1997, 2007 and 2018 respectively. Ms. McGinley-Gieser received her B.A. (Honors) in French and English from the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK.
