Examination of the Integration of Opioid and Infectious Disease Prevention Efforts in Select Programs

Type: Consensus Study
Topics: Health Services, Coverage, and Access, Public Health, Substance Use and Mental Health
Board: Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice

Activity Description

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy (OHAIDP) requests that the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convene an ad hoc committee to conduct a review of select programs to assess the extent to which opioid and infectious disease prevention programs are integrating the services they provide.

The committee will identify and highlight programs that are achieving integration as well as barriers to integration. The committee may suggest strategies to address these barriers. Conclusions and recommendations from the committee will inform OHAIDP's existing and future projects that promote patient-centered, integrated programs to address the opioid and infectious disease epidemics.
