Health Data Initiative Forum III: The Health Datapalooza
The Health Data Initiative (HDI) Forum III: The Health Datapalooza, held on June 5 and 6, 2012, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, brought together a diverse group of more than 1,500 data experts, technology developers, entrepreneurs, policy makers, health care system leaders, and community advocates to support innovative applications of health and health care data. The event was sponsored by the Health Data Consortium, of which the Institute of Medicine is a member. The Forum featured morning plenary sessions with remarks from notable guests from different areas of industry, including Bob Kocher and Dick Foster (venture capital), Kathleen Sebelius and Todd Park (government), Matt Miller and Thomas Goetz (media), Jon Bon Jovi and John Lumpkin (non-profit), and Atul Gawande and Bill Frist (health care), and presentations of some of the best care, consumer, and community-focused apps. The afternoon was filled with many enlightening options, including 16 breakout discussion panels, more than 30 apps demonstrations, and the Data & Apps Expo which featured 75 organizations that showcased their meaningful use of health data.
