On July 11, 2018, the Roundtable on Health Literacy will host a workshop focused on the intersection of behavioral health, mental health, and health literacy. The workshop will examine approaches used across medical care systems and in communities that could address communication issues. The workshop will also examine how health literacy principles are currently incorporated in these approaches or could be incorporated in the future.

The workshop will feature a wide range of speakers, including patients; caregivers; federal policy advisors; clinical researchers; health care providers; experts in social work and health communication; and more. The workshop will be webcast live during the meeting, and videos of each presentation and panel discussion will be available for viewing at this website about a week after the meeting. 

Panel session topics include:

  • Patient and caregiver experience
  • Defining mental health and behavioral health
  • The impact of cognitive burden on health communication
  • Health literacy approaches that can address issues associated with cognitive burden
