Strengthening the Disaster Resilience of Academic Research Communities
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is forming a committee of subject matter experts in the scientific, technical, and medical professions for a consensus study titled “Strengthening the Disaster Resilience of Academic Research Communities.” The committee will explore the effects of disasters on the academic research community (i.e., biological and biomedical) and produce a report that describes the extent of the impact of prior disasters on that community and recommendations and guidance for individual researchers, research institutions, and sponsoring agencies regarding potential actions to be taken that can mitigate the impact of future disasters on research facilities, reagents, and animals.
