Activity Description

An ad hoc committee under the auspices of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will conduct a review and assessment of the current state of the field and best practices in evaluating and quantifying mortality and significant morbidity following large-scale disasters. The committee will specifically focus on disasters declared under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. To carry out the statement of task, the committee will describe the current landscape of mortality and morbidity data collection and guidance; review information sharing processes and methodologies used by state, local, tribal and territorial public health agencies; and propose areas for future resource investment to enhance these practices.
