Steven Rush, M.A., L.P., is the Director of the UnitedHealth Group Health Literacy Innovations Program; an enterprise-wide program to help consumers understand and use health and wellness communications. Rush has worked in the UnitedHealth Group companies for 5 years. Prior to his current position, he was the director of physician engagement at UHC Health Services. He is a licensed psychologist. His interest in health communication has been a natural part of his work. Rush’s interest in health literacy intensified about 11 years ago; when he was the Practice and Patient Safety Manager for the American Academy of Neurology.
Rush’s work includes: representing UnitedHealth Group companies at national and regional health literacy meetings; including the Institute of Medicine Roundtable on Health Literacy and the Consumers Union Expert Roundtable on Assessing Health Insurance Literacy; being a guest editor for a special issue of the Journal of Health Communications focusing on health literacy; sitting on two National Institute of Health, health literacy grant review panels; participating on a technical review committee for the AMA monograph on health literacy and patient safety and coordinating research opportunities between UHG companies and health literacy thought leaders and researchers.
