Type: Consensus Study
Topics: Military and Veterans Health, Select Populations and Health Equity
Board: Board on Military and Veterans Health

Activity Description

The IOM convened two committees of experts having the spectrum and balance of knowledge that is needed to respond to the seven tasks posed by the Veterans' Disability Benefits Commission. This committee addressed Task 6:

"Describe and evaluate the current model used to recognize diseases that are subject to service connection on a presumptive basis. If appropriate, propose a scientific framework that would justify recognizing or not recognizing conditions as presumptive."

The project was commissioned by the Congressionally established Veterans' Disability Benefits Commission and funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
