Gulf Respiratory Health Committee Workshop
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee on the Respiratory Health Effects of Airborne Hazards Exposures in the Southwest Asia Theater of Military Operations will be holding a public workshop on October 3-4, 2019 in Washington, D.C. The purpose of this workshop is to gather information related to the committee’s charge, specifically
- emerging evidence on respiratory health outcomes in servicemembers from research being conducted on military and veteran populations,
- research that could feasibly be conducted to address outstanding questions regarding such respiratory health outcomes and that could generate answers, and
- ·newly-emerging technologies that could aid in these efforts.
Experts have been invited to address these topics in presentations before the committee. There will also be an opportunity for interested persons to give their views on these subjects.
The workshop will take place in the E Street Conference Center at the Keck Center of the National Academies, 500 Fifth St., NW from 9:15am – 5:30pm EDT on Thursday, October 3 and 8:45am – 12:30pm EDT on Friday, October 4. Interested persons may sign up to attend in person or to observe the workshop via a web broadcast by reserving tickets here.
Those wishing to speak in the public comments session (5 minutes per person or organization) are asked to sign up in advance via this registration form. In-person attendance and the opportunity to make a presentation are offered on a first-come/first served basis. Written submissions of information for the committee’s consideration are always welcome and may be sent to GulfRespHealth@nas.edu. Note that copies of all presentations and submissions to the committee are placed in a public access file where they may be viewed by anyone upon request.
