One of the most urgent global health challenges is achieving universal access to quality care. Most of the world achieves this through a mix of public and private sector health care. Financing this care often requires innovative solutions, especially for the large fraction of workers who occupy what is variably defined as the informal sector in low- and middle-income countries. The inaugural workshop for this forum will focus on Approaches to Implement Universal Health Coverage for the Growing Informal Workforce in Developing Countries, held on June 18, 2014 at the National Academies of Science building in Washington DC.
