    The National Academies of Medicine, the Association of Schools and Programs for Public Health, and Emory University are hosting a global health symposium to discuss recently released National Academies’ reports and experiences in the Atlanta region during the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Following presentations, a panel of global health experts will discuss the current state of U.S. investments in global health and implications for the future.

  • Global Harmonization of Methodological Approaches to Nutrient Intake Recommendations: A Workshop Date: September 21, 2017 - September 22, 2017 (2:30 AM Eastern)

    The Food and Nutrition Board, in partnership with the Department of Nutrition for Health and Development of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Nutrition Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), will convene an ad hoc committee to plan and organize a workshop to explore questions about the uses of nutrient intake recommendations, the frameworks used for their development, the status of nutrient intake recommendations globally, and experiences and expertise in methodological approaches.
  • Meeting 2: Committee on Harmonization of Methods for Estimating Nutrient Intake References (Rome, Italy) Date: September 20, 2017 - September 22, 2017 (3:00 AM Eastern)

    The ad hoc committee will be meeting in-person and attending the workshop, Methodological Approaches to Global Harmonization of Nutrient Intake Recommendations, in Rome, Italy. The committee will be using the evidence presented and discussions that take place in the workshop to use a case-study approach to demonstrate the application of a methodological approach for deriving nutrient intake recommendations using a selected nutrient and generate recommendations for methodological approaches to achieve a uniform and consistent basis for setting nutrient intake recommendations for young children and women of child-bearing age across countries.

    The Committee on Harmonization of Methods for Estimating Nutrient Intake References will be holding a public meeting from 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM EDT on August 23, 2017 via videoconference. During this meeting, an overview of the study and additional background information will be provided. The study sponsor, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will be given an orientation to the statement of task. Attendees may register to listen to the committee meeting online.     The Forum on Global Violence Prevention will hold a two-day public workshop on the science surrounding the impacts of exposure to violence and trauma on both neurocognitive and psychosocial outcomes with a strong focus on exposure in childhood, and other aspects such as refugee health and/or PTSD in returning combatants.
