Institute of Medicine member Robert J. Lefkowitz was awarded the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Lefkowitz was elected to the IOM in 1994 and is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He received the award jointly with Brian K. Kobilka “for studies of G-protein-coupled receptors.” Lefkowitz is a professor of medicine and biochemistry at Duke University.
