    On April 1, 2019, the Roundtable on Obesity Solutions of the Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies of Sci¬ences, Engineering, and Medicine, held a public workshop, A Health Equity Approach to Obesity Efforts, in Washington, DC.
  • Guiding Cancer Control: A Path to Transformation Released: June 27, 2019
    The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, with support from the American Cancer Society, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Cancer Institute, convened a committee to develop a national strategy for cancer control. The resulting consensus report, Guiding Cancer Control: A Path to Transformation, presents the committee’s strategic vision and its recommendations defining the key principles, attributes, methods, and tools needed to achieve the goal of implementing an effective national cancer control plan.
  • Current Status and Response to the Global Obesity Pandemic: Proceedings of a Workshop Released: June 25, 2019
    On October 9, 2018, the Roundtable on Obesity Solutions, Health and Medicine Division, National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened a one-day public workshop that examined the status of the global obesity pandemic and explored approaches aimed at managing the problem in different settings around the world.
  • Implementing Strategies to Enhance Public Health Surveillance of Physical Activity in the United States Released: May 21, 2019
    With support from the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened a committee to develop strategies to support the implementation of recommended actions to improve national physical activity surveillance. The resulting report, Implementing Strategies to Enhance Public Health Surveillance of Physical Activity in the United States, outlines the committee’s 22 strategies and supporting actions for implementation.
  • Sustainable Diets, Food, and Nutrition: Proceedings of a Workshop Released: April 18, 2019
    On August 1-2, 2018, the Food Forum of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened a 1.5-day public workshop that reviewed the current and emerging knowledge on the concept of sustainable diets within the field of food and nutrition.
  • Dietary Reference Intakes for Sodium and Potassium Released: March 05, 2019
    Potassium and sodium are interrelated, essential nutrients that play vital roles in the body to maintain physiological homeostasis. Both nutrients have been linked to risk of chronic disease, particularly cardiovascular disease. Additionally, a possible association of sodium intake with other adverse health outcomes has been suggested. The coexistence of essen­tiality with a relationship to adverse health effects, including chronic disease, called for a new approach to establishing intake recommen­dations for potassium and sodium within the context of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs).
