    To gain a better understanding of the health communication challenges among older adults and their professional and family caregivers and how those challenges affect the care older adults receive, the Roundtable on Health Literacy convened a 1-day public workshop which explored the effect of low health literacy on the health of older adults.
  • Understanding the Economics of Microbial Threats ... Released: October 15, 2018
    On June 11-12, 2018, the Forum on Microbial Threats at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine organized a 1.5-day public workshop to assess the current understanding of the interaction of infectious disease threats with economic activity and suggest new areas of research. This workshop built on prior work of the Forum and aimed to build more mutual understanding between those in the economic world and those with public health and clinical experience. Through multisectoral participation, topics in the workshop identified potential knowledge gaps, research priorities for further exploration, and strategies to advance the field in understanding the economics of microbial threats.

    The Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education held a 1.5 day workshop titled, A Systems-Approach to Alleviating Work-Induced Stress and Improving Health, Well-Being, and Resilience of Health Professionals Within and Beyond Education. The workshop was a result of a multiyear discussion on stress and burnout globally, throughout all health professions.

    To examine opportunities to improve cancer diagnosis and care, the National Cancer Policy Forum developed a two-workshop series. The first workshop—held on February 12-13, 2018 in Washington, DC—focused on potential strategies to ensure patients have access to appropriate expertise and technologies in oncologic pathology and imaging to inform cancer diagnosis and subsequent care decisions.
