'1491' Wins 2006 Best Book Award from Academies

September 29 -- Recipients of this year's National Academies Communication Awards include Charles Mann, author of 1491; Lion Television’s documentary 'Ape to Man’; and Elizabeth Kolbert of The New Yorker. The awards recognize excellence in communicating science, engineering, and medicine to the public. A $20,000 prize will be given to each winner on Nov. 9 during the Keck Futures Initiative conference in Irvine, Calif.
