NAS Members Win Nobel Prize in Medicine

October 2 -- Andrew Z. Fire and Craig C. Mello will share the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on RNA interference -- a fundamental mechanism for controlling the flow of genetic information. Fire and Mello are members of the National Academy of Sciences, and Fire is also a member of the Institute of Medicine.
