August 31 -- David Maisel’s large-scale aerial photographs show the impact of human activities on the Great Salt Lake, Owens Valley, and the Los Angeles basin. Images of strip mines, forest clear-cuts, and cyanide leaching fields capture both the beauty and despair of these landscapes. The exhibit opens Sept. 4 at the National Academy of Sciences building, 2100 C St., N.W., Washington, D.C.
