An Era of Earth Observations: Looking Back at 50 Years

November 9 -- From forecasting weather, to detecting changes in land cover, to helping develop navigation systems, satellites have revolutionized how humans view and understand Earth. A new report from the National Research Council looks at scientific and technological achievements made in the first five decades of Earth observations from space. It also examines the potential for future satellite missions to address scientific and societal challenges through new discoveries.
