War Increases Risks for Anxiety, Alcohol Abuse, Other Consequences

November 14 -- Military service in a war zone increases service members' chances of developing post-traumatic stress disorder, other anxiety disorders, and depression, says a new report from the Institute of Medicine, which assessed the health effects of deployment-related stresses. Involvement in a war also raises the risk for alcohol abuse, accidental death, and suicide within the first few years after leaving the war zone, and marital and family conflict
