Academy Honors 13 for Major Contributions to Science

January 22 -- The National Academy of Sciences will honor 13 individuals for their extraordinary achievements in the areas of biology, chemistry, solar physics, ecology, mathematics, oceanography, paleontology, social sciences, and psychology. Achievements include pioneering studies of the magnetized solar wind plasma; research on the first terrestrial vertebrates and the water-to-land transition; development of technologies that led to the production of the first transgenic crops; and experiments on the role of visual expertise in recognition.
