Futures Initiative Awards $1.25 Million for 13 Research Projects

May 3, 2010 -- The National Academies Keck Futures Initiative announced the recipients of its 2009 Futures grants for 13 projects including a workshop that will explore the potential roles for synthetic biology in NASA missions and the development of technology that could pave the way for biological sensors that detect and treat cancer and gastrointestinal diseases. The grant recipients participated in the conference "Synthetic Biology," held last November. A summary of the conference is available.
