FDA Should Adopt Risk-Based Approach to Food Safety

June 8, 2010 -- To more proactively target potential food safety problems, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration should implement a risk-based approach in which data and expertise are marshaled to pinpoint where along the food production, distribution, and handling chains there is the greatest potential for contamination and other problems, says a new report from the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council.
