IOM Recommends Framework for Evaluating Ethical Issues in Studying Approved Drugs

July 8, 2010 -- A new letter report from the Institute of Medicine recommends a conceptual framework to help the U.S. Food and Drug Administration evaluate the ethical issues involved in determining whether companies should start or continue clinical trials on approved drugs and in ensuring that these studies are ethically conducted. The report is the start of an ongoing review of ethical and scientific issues related to studying the safety of drugs on the market.
