Ismail Serageldin to Receive Public Welfare Medal

January 18, 2011 -- The National Academy of Sciences’ Council has selected Ismail Serageldin -- founding director of the New Library of Alexandria in Egypt -- to receive the Academy’s 2011 Public Welfare Medal. Considered its most prestigious award, the Public Welfare Medal is presented annually to honor extraordinary use of science for public good. The medal will be presented at a ceremony on May 1 during the Academy’s 148th annual meeting.
