NAS Honors 13 for Major Contributions to Science

January 20, 2011 -- The National Academy of Sciences will honor 13 individuals in 2011 for their outstanding scientific achievements in the areas of biology, chemistry, physics, economics, and psychology. Achievements include pioneering discoveries of chemical communication among bacteria; development of instrumentation to understand the sun’s magnetic fields and its interior structure; contributions to understanding catalysis and complex biological machines; a groundbreaking new model of human inductive learning and innovative studies of human perception, language, and reasoning; and discovery and development of drugs for treating asthma and AIDS.
