This globe image is composed of the flags of the seven African nations participating in the African Science Academy Development Initiative. The science academies of Nigeria, Uganda, and South Africa were chosen as the initial focal points for the effort. In addition, strategic-planning grants will be given to the science academies of Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, and Kenya, as well as the regional African Academy of Sciences.

Anyone with an Internet connection can read more than 3,000 National Academies Press reports free. Portable Document Format (PDF) versions of the reports can be downloaded or printed free by users in over 140 developing countries and economies in transition. In developed countries, some PDF reports are also available free, and others are available for purchase. Over 1,500 other reports on transportation issues are available free online to users in any nation.
