This globe image is composed of the flags of the seven African nations participating in the African Science Academy Development Initiative. The science academies of Nigeria, Uganda, and South Africa were chosen as the initial focal points for the effort. In addition, strategic-planning grants will be given to the science academies of Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, and Kenya, as well as the regional African Academy of Sciences.

Professor Joseph Otieno Malo

Professor Joseph Otieno Malo

Chairman, Kenya National Academy of Sciences, Kenya

Prof. Otieno Malo was born 1941. He joined University College Nairobi as a Special Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Physics. He is a founder member and current Chairman of the Kenya National Association of Physicists and a member of the National Council for Science and Technology Committee on Application of Nuclear Sciences and Technology. His research interests include theoretical studies in plasma, solid state, statistical and mathematical physics, quantum chemistry, energy and transportation. He has published a considerable number of scientific papers in journals of international repute and also participated and presented papers in many national and international meetings on science and technology. He is currently coordinator of the Physics Sub network of the Basic Sciences Network within the African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions.
