This globe image is composed of the flags of the seven African nations participating in the African Science Academy Development Initiative. The science academies of Nigeria, Uganda, and South Africa were chosen as the initial focal points for the effort. In addition, strategic-planning grants will be given to the science academies of Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, and Kenya, as well as the regional African Academy of Sciences.

Professor Isaac O. Nyambok

Professor Isaac O. Nyambok

Chairman, Organizing Committee, Kenya

Professor lsaac O. Nyambok is a pioneer Kenyan professor of Geology at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He joined the Executive Committee of the International Union of Geological Sciences as a Vice-President in 1996.

Together with Dr. S. Bwire-Ojiambo, he founded the Geological Society of Kenya, through which he spearheaded the enactment of the Geologist Registration Act by Kenya's Parliament. The act gives the geologists in Kenya recognition as scheduled professionals. He became the founder chairman of the International Commission for Earth Sciences in Africa in 1990. He is the founder Assistant Secretary of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences, in charge of Physical Sciences, and is a Fellow of the Academy. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Geological Society of Africa.
