System for Evaluating and Rating Vets’ Disabilities Needs Overhaul

June 7 -- The tools and methods used to evaluate and rate the severity of veterans' service-connected disabilities for compensation are medically out of date, says a new report by the Institute of Medicine. These tools should be updated and also assessed to ensure that they adequately address the impact of disabilities on all aspects of veterans' daily lives, not just their ability to work.
