Nuclear Medicine Holds Many Promises For Improved Care

September 20 -- Advances in nuclear medicine could accelerate improvements in health care, particularly in "personalized medicine," where treatment is tailored to an individual's genetic makeup, says a new report from the National Research Council and Institute of Medicine. For the field to reach its potential, however, the federal government must enhance its commitment to research in nuclear medicine, which includes the need to improve radionuclide availability and to train more nuclear medicine scientists.
