IISME details: Scope of Summer Fellowship Program

Since its founding in 1985, IISME, through its Summer Fellowship Program, has had a broad impact on the San Francisco Bay Area:

  • It has awarded 928 Summer Fellowships to 512 individual teachers from 7 counties in the San Francisco Bay Area. These Fellows constitute 25% of the high-school math and science teaching force, and a smaller percentage of the regionís K-8 teachers and community college faculty.
  • The Fellows have come from 210 public schools in 64 school districts and 42 private schools.
  • Over 125 companies, universities, government agencies, and foundations have contributed $8 million to IISME in the last 12 years.
  • Almost 900 scientists, engineers, industry managers, and university researchers from 87 host employers have served as mentors to IISME Fellows.
