Framing Opioid Prescribing Guidelines for Acute Pain:
Developing the Evidence

This new report, from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, offers recommendations which will assist professional societies, health care organizations, and local, state, and national agencies to develop clinical practice guidelines for opioid prescribing for acute pain. Such a framework could inform the development of opioid prescribing guidelines and ensure systematic and standardized methods for evaluating evidence, translating knowledge, and formulating recommendations for practice.

These briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on December 19, 2019 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
