Airports and the communities they serve have offered air service incentives to influence airline route decisions and encourage new services by mitigating some of the financial risks that new services can create for airlines. TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern that discussed the different types of air service incentives that airports and communities offer. The presenters described a GIS tool that practitioners can use to analyze the air service incentives that specific airports and communities around the U.S have offered. Presenters discussed several case studies and lessons learned from particular air service incentive programs. While the data was collected and analyzed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the lessons will likely still be relevant as airports, airlines, and communities work together to rebuild air service over the coming years.
The webinar features research from ACRP Research Report 218: Building and Maintaining Air Service Through Incentive Programs.
This webinar was sponsored by the Airport Cooperative Research Program.
