TRB Webinar: Performance and Benefits of Metalizing and Duplex Coating

November 18, 2021

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM (EST)

Past

The use of metalizing and duplex coating to mitigate corrosion of steel bridges is expanding. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 2:00-3:30 PM Eastern that discussed how metalizing and duplex coating techniques can help with bridge durability. There is limited accelerated weathering and long-term in-situ data available, and this webinar highlighted two state departments of transportation (DOTs) that have conducted extensive laboratory investigations. Presenters explored the performance and benefits of these coating systems. They discussed accelerated weathering performance of inorganic zinc, sealed metalizing, and different metalizing alloys.

This webinar is sponsored by the TRB Standing Technical Committees on Steel Bridges.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. Using metalizing and duplex coating to enhance durability of steel bridges: Paul Vinik, Greenman Pedersen, Inc.
  2. Florida DOT case study: Timothy McCullough, Florida Department of Transportation
  3. Texas DOT case study: Johnnie Miller, Texas Department of Transportation
  4. Question and answer session: Moderated by Vickie Young, Florida Department of Transportation

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Design steel bridge with coatings that best fit their environments and provide the longest service life for steel bridges
