New advances in modeling and additive manufacturing can help tailor the geometry and composition of a component to improve its performance, but there is much to be learned before the manufacturing of these optimized structures is possible. A workshop on exploiting advanced manufacturing capabilities and topology optimization is held on November 19-20, 2019 Washington, D.C. This workshop will examine how topology optimization can be effectively implemented and extended to meet next generation needs in defense manufacturing. Topics include optimizing manufacturability alongside material design, methods for optimizing multiple different properties of a single material, and applications toward flexible electronics and biomaterials.
