A virtual public workshop will be held to discuss how to strengthen and modernize methods reporting in disseminated research. Additional information will be available in the coming weeks.
Description
A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and conduct a virtual public workshop to discuss how to strengthen and modernize methods reporting in disseminated research. Reporting methods involves describing how results were generated in sufficient detail so that an independent researcher in the same field could replicate the work. The workshop will discuss current efforts and possible new initiatives to improve methods reporting, including: (1) developing new standards for methods and protocols reporting, (2) developing systems for assigning credit for the creation and sharing of methods and protocols, (3) technical issues that need to be addressed in the implementation of new approaches to methods reporting, (4) roles of research institutions, research disseminators, and research sponsors in promoting adoption of possible new standards. A Proceedings of a Workshop--in Brief will be prepared by a designated rapporteur and distributed broadly.
