The National Imperative to Improve Nursing Home Quality:
Honoring Our Commitment to Residents, Families, and Staff
This new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine examines how the United States delivers, finances, regulates, and measures the quality of nursing home care. The report identifies seven broad goals and supporting recommendations which provide the overarching framework for a comprehensive approach to improving the quality of care in nursing homes.
This project was completed with the support of a coalition of private sponsors. However, there was also interest in this topic expressed in P.L. 116-260, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021. Although not a direct response to Congress, the study does cover a number of issues of concern to them.
These briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on April 6, 2022 and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
