The National Academy of Engineering will convene two national workshops—one hybrid and one virtual—to advance NSF’s Experiential Learning for Emerging and Novel Technologies (ExLENT) initiative and engage its grantees. The workshops will foster peer learning, systems-level problem solving, and cross-sector connections among grantees, industry leaders, and experiential learning experts, with a strong emphasis on expanding and strengthening emerging technology workforce pathways. Insights and outcomes will be broadly disseminated to inform continued collaboration, practice, and policy in support of the initiative, its participants, and non-traditional learners.
Description
The National Academy of Engineering, at the request of the National Science Foundation (NSF), will convene two national workshops--one in-person and one virtual--to support the agency’s Experiential Learning for Emerging and Novel Technologies (ExLENT) initiative. These events will bring together ExLENT awardees, business and industry leaders, and experts in experiential learning to strengthen workforce development in emerging technology fields, using a systems approach to identify problems and solutions. Participants will, with the guidance of subject-matter authorities, share experiences, explore evidence-based strategies for engaging non-traditional learners, and build connections across education and employment sectors. The first workshop will emphasize peer learning, systems-level thinking, and relationship building; the second will expand participation to additional awardees and focus on reflecting on lessons learned, assessing the systems-approach framework, and fostering continued collaboration. Activities will include such activities as presentations, panel discussions, demonstrations, hands-on training, case studies, role-playing, small-group discussions, and networking. Outcomes will be disseminated through videos, a written proceedings, and targeted products to inform broader practice and policy.
