Airports must maintain compliance with environmental regulations associated with deicing operations. TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern that discussed a planning approach for deicing operations at airports, based upon application of Best Management Practices (BMPs) in an adaptive management framework. Presenters described five categories of BMPs: aircraft deicing source reduction, airfield pavement deicing source reduction, deicing stormwater runoff containment and collection, deicing runoff treatment and recycling, and deicing runoff system components.

The webinar features research from ACRP Research Report 14: Deicing Planning Guidelines and Practices for Stormwater Management Systems, Second Edition.
