Topical Working Group: Retaining and Sustaining High-Quality Science Educators - Collaborative for Advancing Science Teaching and Learning in K-12

In progress

Any project, supported or not by a committee, that is currently being worked on or is considered active, and will have an end date.

The Retaining and Sustaining High-Quality Science Educators Topical Working Group aims to foster supportive environments for science teachers that enhance their professional development and job satisfaction across schools nationwide. The initiative will explore district and state policy levers and constraints, effective retention strategies, the full arc of professional learning over the course of an educator's career, and the needs of educators in the field. Key focus areas include competitive compensation and benefits, models of professional learning including coaching and mentorship programs, and supportive school cultures and structures.

Description

The Collaborative on Advancing Science Teaching and Learning in K-12 (CASTL-K12) brings together entities across sectors engaged in the work of implementing Framework-inspired state level science standards. The heart of the work occurs within Topical Working Groups (Elementary Science, Retaining and Sustaining High Quality Science Educators, Empowering School and Instructional Leaders, Understanding and Navigating the Policy Conditions for Equitable Implementation) where together member organizations take on new evidence-based actions and share lessons learned with the broader science education community.
