Forum on the Revolution in Intelligence Affairs

The Forum on the Revolution in Intelligence Affairs will meet roughly quarterly, and will facilitate discussions between academia, industry, and representatives from the Intelligence Community (IC). Meetings will cover topics such as the impact of changes in science and technology on the way the IC pursues its mission. Due to classification requirements, most meetings will not be open to the public. No Academies products will result from these meetings.

Description

The Forum on the Revolution in Intelligence Affairs will bring experts from academia, industry, and the public sector together to discuss new developments in science and technology and the implications of those developments for the Intelligence Community. Forum meetings may include the following:

  • Presentations by ex officio members on emerging issues, highlighting their agencies’ missions and areas of focus and gaining feedback about their activities

Briefings on findings from relevant National Academies studies Short updates from Forum members about their activities or new/emerging issues Briefings by scientists, government officials, or other stakeholders about emerging issues Planning sessions on topics for future meetings or for spin-off workshops or studies on specific topics The Forum will meet up to four times per year. Its meetings will not be open to the public, although guests with appropriate clearances may be invited. Following each meeting, Forum staff will develop a meeting recap, written by a rapporteur or a NASEM staff member, for distribution to the sponsor only. Meeting recaps will not include any recommendations or judgments, although they may contain attributable comments and opinions from those who were present at the meeting, and will be reviewed at the Division level per normal Academies procedures.
